Bhutan Army Chief Visits Tezpur

 

From 08-10 Dec, Gajraj Corps hosted a high level delegation of officers of Royal Bhutan Army, led by Maj Gen Batoo Tshering, the Army Chief, who has received his training at IMA. The entourage was conducted around Tezpur Cantt & were also briefed on various welfare initiatives. During the visit to 'Aasra', the visitors were overwhelmed by the noble idea of providing facilities for academic growth of talented children of far flung & remote areas.

 

Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Addresses Teachers and Students at Delhi Cantt

 

Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India was the Chief Guest for the National Education Day function organised by the Army Institute of Education (AIE) and HQ Delhi Area on 20 Dec. The AIE, Delhi Cantt offers a one-year BEd program for dependents of Army personnel. Dr Kalam delivered the key note address on "National Character Building". This was followed by a panel discussion on “Value and Human Rights in Teacher Education : Content and Methodology”. A gathering of 600 teachers & 500 students from various education institutes in Delhi attended.

 

Visit of Indian War Veterans to Bangladesh: Victory Day Celebrations

 

Visit of Indian War Veterans to Bangladesh and reciprocal exchanges by the Mukti Jodhas at respective Victory Day Celebrations at Kolkata & Dacca began in 2005.This year an Indian delegation of 71 War Veterans, led by Lt Gen (Retd) SPM Tripathi attended the Victory Day Celebrations. The members attended the Wreath Laying Ceremony, Victory Day Parade and 'Called On' the President & Prime Minister.

 

 

Army’s Support to the Disabled- 2011 Declared “Year of the Disabled Soldier”

 

The Chief of the Army Staff has declared 2011 as “Year of the Disabled Soldier”, to honour soldiers, who have been wounded or handicapped, while serving the Nation. The Army is whole heartedly committed towards welfare of, both, battle and non battle casualties and provides them with maximum benefits, through numerous welfare schemes in vogue. During 2011, the Army would specifically concentrate on welfare and rehabilitation of disabled personnel. A number of schemes in this regard are planned to be launched. Some of these are :- A grant of Rs 1 Crore earmarked for upgradation of infrastructure, rehabilitation & training of quadriplegic & paraplegic patients. Financial assistance for modification of bathroom as a `One Time Grant’ of Rs 20,000/- to be provided to those disabled in service & being wheelchair bound.

 

Op Cloudburst: Calamity to Opportunity

 

‘Siachen Brigade’, which bore the brunt of the cloudburst in Ladakh region on 06 Aug, has, since restored the habitat and communications with better safety and amenities, thus contributing greatly to improving living standards of troops. As part of ‘Op Cloud Burst’, a ‘State-of the-art’ living shelter with central heating and plumbing facilities, was recently constructed.

 

 

Philatelic Exhibition Organised at Kolkata

 

A Philately Exhibition was organized by 2 Cental Base Post Office on 20 Dec at Barrackpore Military Station, Kolkata, for the benefit of school children of Army, Air Force & Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools and also for the troops & families stationed there. A stamp designing competition was also organized & prizes were awarded for the best three entries.
