A project to augment existing facilities at the 760 bedded Command Hospital, Kolkata has commenced. Costing Rs 36.32 crore, the six storey building will provide state of art facilities for departments of Neurosciences, Hematology CTVS and Cardiac Cath Lab. This complex will also have advanced Cardiothoracic Operation theatres and an auditorium. The foundation stone was laid by GOC-in-C Eastern Command on 01 Nov.

An Environment campaign ‘My Earth My Duty’ was undertaken by Ecological Task Forces (ETFs) of Territorial Army wef Aug 2010 to Sep 2011. ETFs supported the campaign within the existing mandate on no cost basis and were able to achieve enhanced plantation in respective locations. They planted 72,825 trees in 2010 and 50,468 trees in 2011. On 24 Nov, Zee News felicitated two Eco Task Force warriors, Rifleman Jagdish Prasad of Infantry Battalion (TA) Eco, (RAJ RIF) and Sepoy Ramesh Chand of Infantry Battalion (TA) Eco, (DOGRA).

Motivation of Young Minds through Schools/Colleges

As part of the “Campaign for Enhancing Army’s Image and Motivation of Young Minds through Schools/Colleges,” a presentation was conducted by Medium Regiment at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Lakhanpur recently. 200 students from class XI to XII attended. An overview of the opportunities offered by Army as a career and the unique lifestyle in the profession of arms were highlighted.

Beach Clean-up Drive at Port Blair

As part of a Green Initiative, ‘Beach Clean-up Drive’ at Corbyn’s Cove was organized by Headquarters, ANC with support from Port Blair Municipal Corporation. The participants (about 300 volunteers)were split into two groups, one cleaning the banks of Marina Park and the other on a walkathon to clean up Corbyn’s Cove. In keeping with the concept of the campaign, a roadshow rally, bikeparade with placards were organised, aptly conceptualising the theme, ‘leave only your foot prints at the beach’.

Commander Sri Lankan Army reviews POP at IMA

615 Gentlemen Cadets (GCs) and 08 Foreign GCs passed out from Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun on 10 Dec, marching to the tunes of 'Col Bogey' and 'Sare Jahan Se Achcha’. The Reviewing Officer congratulated all newly commissioned officers and asked them to be ready to face all types of challenges. The Sword of Honour went to JUO Karan Kothari and Gold Medal for standing first in overall merit went to BUO Abhijeet Singh. COAS Banner awarded to the Company standing overall first, was bagged by Keren Company.

Rising Star Corps Commisions Three New ECHS Polyclinics

In a simple ceremony, Chief of Staff, Rising Star Corps handed over an ECHS polyclinic at Dehra Gopipur. Simultaneously, two new Polyclinics were formally opened by Station Commander, Palampur at Joginder Nagar and Palampur.

Today, ECHS provides quality medicare to over 1,60,000 beneficiaries in the region. Three Polyclinics were established recently at Shahpur, Kullu and Talwara. More are being opened at Bari Brahmna, Unchibassi and Chamba.

Project Himank completes 25 Years

Project Himank, also known as ‘Mountain Tamers’ was raised on 04 Dec 1985 at Leh exclusively for development of road communication in Ladakh region, which, till 1960 was connected with rest of India only by mule tracks. During last 25 years, the Project has constructed some of the most technically challenging roads in high altitude areas, in most inhospitable terrain. Responsible for construction and maintenance of all roads and airfields ahead of Leh, it undertakes summer and winter snow clearance over seven high passes (12200 ft to 18380 ft) so as to keep communications. On the occasion, a special commemorative cover was released by the COAS.

NCC Football Team wins Junior Subroto Cup

Subroto Cup was conceived by Air Marshal Subroto Mukherjee in 1960. The junior competition begins as an inter-school tournament at Sub Division, District and State level; Schools winning the State Tournaments participate at National Level at New Delhi. This year two NCC Teams, ie West Bengal and North East Region participated. In the finals played at Ambedkar Stadium on 25 Nov, NCC West Bengal & Sikkim team defeated NCC Meghalaya team by a 2-1 margin. Air Marshal KK Nowhar gave away the prizes, in presence of India’s football legend Mr Bhaichung Bhutia. The NCC teams also won Best Player, Best Goalkeeper & Best Coach Awards, besides a cash prize of Rs 3 Lakhs for the winners.

Common-Wealth Weight Lifting Championship

Havildar Yukar Sibi, of AOC Centre Secunderabad, participated in Common Wealth Weight Lifting Championship held at Capetown, South Africa from 10 to 15 Oct and won one Gold and one Silver Medal in 62 Kg weight category. He has also been selected for Weight lifting Athletics Trials-2012, to be held at London and is presently undergoing training at NIS Patiala.





Cycle Expedition Cum Adventure Activity

A cycling cum adventure activity expedition named ‘Mission Jagruti’ Armd Regt was flagged off from Mamun Military Station on 01 Oct. The team, comprising 01 Officer, 01 JCO and 08 Jawans, traversed 427 km all along the International Boundary from Samba to Firozpur, over 07 days, with a threefold aim of adventure activity, promoting National Integration and interaction with ESM.




'Will to Win'-Multi Dimensional Adventure Expedition

As a prelude to celebrating its Golden Jubilee in 2012, Sarvada Agrani Brigade, flagged off a ten day Multi Dimensional Adventure Expedition from Suratgarh. The expedition involved Rowing in Indira Gandhi Canal, Camel Safari, Motorbike Ride, Desert Trekking and Cycling upto Bikaner and was flagged in at Bathinda, after covering 646 Kms. The team, comprising one officer, 3 JCOs and 23 Jawans, visited 20 villages,educated local populace on importance of rain water harvesting, HIV/AIDS, joining the Indian Army and disseminated the message of peace and brotherhood.

Hot Air Balloon Race from Nasirabad to Bhopal

To commemorate the Raising Day of Agnibaz Division and hone the skills of competition flying and further train qualified pilots in flying over difficult/adverse conditions, a Hot Air Balloon race from Nasirabad to Bhopal was organised recently. The 440 Kms journey traversed through Devlali, Kota, Jhalawar and Rajgarh, culminating at Bhopal. A team of three Officers, three JCOs and 14 Jawans led by Capt Nikhil Parmar, participated.





South Western Command Adventure Challenge Cup

In pursuance of the spirit of adventure, comraderie, team spirit and bravery, Red Eagle Division of South Western Command successfully concluded the South Western Command Adventure Challenge Cup 2011. Nine teams from South Western Command participated. Sepoy Iswar Singh was adjudged Best Cyclist and Sepoy Subash was the Runner Up.






Surya Terriers White Water Rafting Expedition

On occasion of its 62nd Raising day, a team of 20 rafters of “Surya Terriers” conducted a White Water Rafting Expedition over 151 Km of mountainous stretch in river Ganges from Rudraprayag to Rishikesh. The aim was not only to master fast currents of River Ganges but also to spread the social message of 'checking of soil erosion, water conservation, tree plantation and keeping rivers free from pollution'.






Desert Safari by GRENADIERS

To hone the cross country driving skills of new drivers of ‘B’ vehicles & to share its expertise in the desert sector, a gruelling ‘Desert Safari’ was conducted by 17 Grenadiers. The training was conducted in the most difficult part of the Thar Desert, reflecting the vagaries of terrain. 105 ‘B’ vehicles and 447 personnel took part. The capsule culminated in a Desert Safari, which was a continuous cross country move over two days (with a night halt) over a gruelling desert of 350 Kms.
