WORKSHOP ON LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERYAT RVC CENTRE AND COLLEGE

1. A three day workshop on laparoscopic surgery was organized at Veterinary Training Faculty of RVC Centre and College, Meerut Cantt, from 16-18 Aug 2016, which was attended by 45 x RVC offrs from across the length and breadth of the country.


2. Dr Sushil Sood, PhD, M Sc, BVSc & AH, Veterinary Officer, Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre and Monkey Sterilization Centre, Deptt of Wild Life at Shimla, Himachal Pradesh conducted lectures and demonstrations on various laparoscopic instruments and their “On the Job” use in exploratory laparotomy and various laparoscopic surgical procedures.


3. The lectures spread over three days covered various topics like history of veterinary laparoscopic surgeries, patient protocols, anesthesia and various surgical procedures in small animals particularly dogs. (The trg pgme is att as appx ‘A’)


4. A live audio-visual telecast of the whole event was displayed at various places like conf hall and Comdt’s office in order to facilitate and benefit max no. of participants who could not be accommodated inside the operation theatre.


5. The visiting dignitary shared his vast experience on the subject and also displayed videos of various laparoscopic surgeries performed by him in India and abroad.


6. 07 x practical trg sessions for all the trainees were carried out during which the trainees were trained to handle and use laparoscopic instruments on live animals for exploratory, diagnostic and therapeutic surgeries.


7. An in-house discussion was held with the trainees post workshop and it was felt that there is a need to formally train the RVC offrs at reputed institutes dealing with laparoscopic surgeries in equines and canines to accrue the following major benefits of the technique:

(a) Lesser hospitalization period
(b) Lesser surgical risks
(c) Quick recovery without minimal post-operative complications.
(d) Less painful as compared to traditional surgery.
(e) To keep pace with the advancements in the field of veterinary surgery.

8. Major General Dev Raj, Commandant, RVC Centre and College felicitated Dr. Sushil Sood on this occasion and motivated all the participants to adopt these techniques
